Enthusiastic "Re-Beginner"

Wow, what a fun thread to read! Glad you got your goldfish back in the bigger tank. I'm a newbie too and it was a goldfish experience that convinced me to help my son get a tropical tank started. We had a goldfish in a small tank and on an online forum I learned about how important water changes were. I would not have taken water changes seriously except for this online help and it turned out that the goldfish lived for many years. I did a 25% water change every saturday morning without fail and I always felt it made a huge difference in the happiness, health and long life of that goldfish.
The real lesson for me was that there is little need to try to "re-invent the wheel by myself" when there is a fun, informative community of fish keepers out there who are getting added enjoyment of their hobby by giving each other advice and sharing pictures and experiences. I've now been taking in advice for weeks and find it much more powerful than books, magazines, local fish stores!
Anyway, good luck with your new stand when your dad finishes it and send us the occasional picture of those 3 happy goldfish. -w-
