Help What Have I Done Wrong?

As Tolak said, a sponge filter functions mainly as a biological filter and won't do a whole lot to filter out solids. In the link that I provided, the water would be pulled down through the sponge at the top of the container. If using a larger sponge like the one pictured in Tolak's post and holes in your lift tubing, I think that either method would do the job for you.

Just off the topic.... Tolak..... Do you ever sleep???..... When I go online at 2am in the mornings, You are online...... When I go online at 14h00 in the afternoons.... you are online... DO YOU EVER SLEEP??

I run extra sponge filters in mature tanks, then clone a tank when need be.

I Never Sleep.

I'll tell you what often happens on the weekends. I'll be on the computer, on several sites at once, while walking in & out of the fishroom doing things. I'll often have the TV on, it is right outside the fishroom, especially during football season.

It's almost guaranteed something on TV will catch my interest, then get less interesting, so I fall asleep. Next thing I know, a couple of little dogs are waking me up, they need to go out. The computer is forgotten, I let them out, make coffee upstairs, talk with the wife, and get involved in other things.

Several hours later I go back downstairs, by golly, I did it again, computer on, windows open. Gee, what was I looking at hours ago?

This doesn't happen during the week, as I'm at work, so don't have the luxury of staying up late playing with fish.
