Help On Guppies!

A male guppy shouldn't harrass a female platy, but there is always the exception. I have heard of guppies taking a particular shine to one particular fish even if it is not the same species and trying to mate with them.

Any male live bearer will chase any female live bearer, so a male guppy would chase a female platy.

Or should i set the temperature low like at low seventies so the guppies won't be as active and hopefully won't mate?

No, this could be bad for their health. It's usually suggested to keep 2 females per every male in the tank. Live bearers always mate, no matter how many males and females. You could have 1 male and 7 females and you'd still get fry. I'd say you should do something like 3 males and 6 females, just so none of them get exhausted. You'd still have plenty of babies. I have 4 female platies in my 64L and no compatible males, and I still have fry coming out of my ears!
Just something to think about :good:

So if i put any other female live bearer my female guppies are less stressed out because the male guppies are too busy chasing others?

Whichever female livebearer is in with males will get harassed by the males. When one of the females is getting close to delivery, the males will be especially obnoxious to that female, waiting for the fry to deliver so they can gobble them up.

This is the life that you'll be setting up for your guppies. It will be stressful for all of the mixed sexes and the fry, not to mention you when it comes time to breeding them.

Oh so then my females won't be as stressed as I thought it would be now that I know there are other ways to keep males from harassing one indiviual too much
