Help Moving Current Stocking To New Tank.

As shown in my last post I have set up my new tank yesterday and has now been running for 16 hours. The temperature of the tank is correct and I'm wanting to move the fish over today.

I have a new 1000 l/ph external filter that is a similar design to the tetratec EX series just the cheaper version from eBay. My old filter is a fluval 3+.

Is it right that if I transfer all my mature media from the fluval to the new filter I can just swop the fish right over ?

It's my day off today so I can check the water regulary with my API test kit

Yup, either move all the filter media or just move the filter over and run both filters until the new one is established

Thanks for the fast reply is there any were in particular to put the old media as this new filter has 3 baskets 1 with ceramic rings the other with bio balls n the top level with just a fine sponge

Yes I did this when I moved from my 3 foot 125 liter to my 4 foot 240 liter by doing this I had no problems just do the big move quickly and with least stress to the fish.

i did it last week pal. swaped from a internal fluval u4 to a external 305. i stuffed all my old foam pads between the new ones and placed the biomax rings in there 2. I have done daily api tests and have not had any changes in my stats. didnt even result in a mini cycle. Just get as much of the old media in your new filter as poss.

no, adding old water serves no purpose mate, as long as the filter media's there your good to go

Well I've just moved the media and the fish over fingers crossed I have no problems and cazzie the background didn't go to plan

Good good. Well keep us inforemed during the day with updates and pics. What happened with the background???
Works pretty quite 2day so I will be keeping up2 date with this. Don't disappoint

Well I got a bit cautious about putting bare cement in the tank so went and got some G4 concrete pond seal. As I was applying it, it penetrated the cement and melted the polystyrene not to worry tho I will be attempting it again

some bacteria are in the gravel arent they? so shouldnt you put the old gravel in a stocking and rest it on the new gravel? not an expert so this may not be right.

That is certainly a good idea James and many people have done this on here before.
