Help me identify my fish

Hi there I have had this fish for 1 month or 2 in a 125 gallon tank It was sold as a green severum but I am not to sure he shot up in size I mean like 3 inches in the 2 month is always with the jack dempsy he might not have gained his colour yet I dont have muc experience with severums I was hoping someone could identify them for me

Is anyone able to sex this red terror

they grow to about 6 inches and show colour when they mature, which can be around 6-12 months, depending on how well fed and cared for it is. Most colour occurs when they are breeding and they are pretty boring when not breeding.

we need a full picture of the jack dempsey, showing its fins. Males have longer more pointed dorsal (top) and anal (bottom) fins.

Hopefully these will help could you also sex the red terror

cant sex fish without seeing their fins.
if the fish is small it won't have full size finnage.

The jack dempsey I'm pretty sure is a male as he has pointed fins the red terror I'm not sure I'll try and get more pictures if both they are both around 5 to 6 inches

I'm pretty sure hes male but the spots on his cheeks i think theyre called gill playes make me think otherwise

How can you tell I'm not familiar with this species

The females are really distinctive - they get a really bright red and black stripes where as the males look like this.

Oh great thank you how large to these fish get o have heard 6 inches and then 20 inches I have a large enough tank but it may be pushing it if it's a 20 inch fish

Colin mentioned six inches which I was surprised by I think this is a species where the males and females vary greatly and the females stay much smaller but the males from what I’ve read are up to 20 inches but I’d say 12-15 is certainly attainable

Ok that's a better size than for my tank how do you think hell do with a jack dempsey and a green terror I know temperament plays a part the jack dempsy is very docile and the green terror is still young but I havent had any issues so far
