I have a female betta sorority tank with 4 females. I went away for the weekend but they were being fed while I was gone. My alpha female now has badly shredded fins, is struggling to swim, labored breathing and mostly on the bottom of the tank. I did take her out and placed her in a smaller container to help her recover and to keep an eye on her. The other three females show no signs of illness or injury. My tank set up consists of sand, plastic plants, a heater and filter. Since no one else seems to be injured I am ruling out fighting. I can only assume that she was caught in the filter or by the plants. I would like some input on what you might think it is and what I can do to try to help her recover though I strongly believe she won't make it. I am also not opposed to suggestions I just don't want this to happen again.

Do you have a picture of your set up? how big is the tank?

Can you ask the person who was feeding the fish while you were away if she started looking like that gradually or if it was sudden?
