i came home from work today to find water very cloudy and it roasting hot. my filter had stopped workin. so i raced to pets at home to get a new filter the same as one i had so i could easly transfer media. the new filter is now in and working and temp has lowered to nearly normal. i am now in middle if doin a 50% water change. is there anything else i should be doing? fish all ok as yet

just keep an eye on the water paramaters and do the water change

how did the temperature rise?

it was a fluval 2 +. dont no exact how much it went up but i let it cool its self as not to shock fish. just tested water after the water change everything seams normal

amm 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10
ph 7.6

water still very cloudy will this settle

i dont no what happened to it. checked to see if the fuse had gone but it still didnt work after changing the fuse it was roasting hot tho.. i dont no how old it was as it was a second hand one

Sounds like the impeller stopped spinning, but even then the filter shouldn't of nearly got hot enough to actually heat the tank noticeably.
When was that last time you took the impeller out?

I'd buy a cheap glass thermometer, and keep checking your heater.

Even if the impella sticks it shouldnt overheat, unless the coil went short but that should have blown the fuse.

I would be interested to see what the "cloud" is!
