Help! Filter Has Just Packed In!

Came back to find the filter on my 100L tank has packed in I've put two small filters on the tank tho they have no matre filter media and I have floated the old material!
I need to go out to get a filter nowhoping somewhere is open!! Can someone suggest an easily available suitable filter? preferably one that is very quiet as its next to my bed!! thanks in advance

Hmm sometimes my filters don't start up when i turn them back on- whenever this happens though i just get a wooden chopstick and stick it up the propeller and that always gets them going lol .

But yeah, if your filters are totally knackered beyond repair then personally i would recommend a Tetratec or Fluval one- good makes. Concerning the old media, you need to either put it inside the spare filter/s or squeeze out some of the muck from the media onto the new filters media to help "clone" the beneficial nitrifying bacteria properly .

Im worried thart the small filters are no where near capable of doing 100L i think theyre rated for a combined 30! I now have one filter with a mature sponge cut in half and jammed in it, nowhere is open now that I know of so what can I do to help my fish last the night? THanks for the replies by the way. Is there anyway to fix the ooriginal filter its an internal juwel? how do u mean stick a chopstick up it? You mean to start the propellers rotating?

Yes . Take the black outlet pipe off the pump, put the little pump back in the filter box, switch it on and quickly (but gently) tap a wooden chopstick up the outlet like so....;

To get the propeller going again .
I kid you not i've been starting my Juwel Rio 400 filters like this for 4 years now (this is quite a common fault with built-in juwel filter pumps)

Edit: Oh yeah, about the other filters. If all fails and the main filter can't be re-started, then if its just for one night the other 2 should be ok- just give the tank a small water change in the morning and run them alongside the new filter when you get it. The beneficial nitrifying bacteria can double its numbers in as little as 24 hrs if its from an established colony. But i'm 95% certain the chopstick trick will get the old filter going again, been doing it on my Juwel tanks for years etc v .

Well I hope they'll survive I'm going to pick up a new filter and hopefully a replacement pump tmrw after work. Tried the chopstick and it didn't work. Checked the fuse and thats ok so it must be completely knackered. I dont even think its 2 years old which is the most annoying thing!

juwel have a 2 year warrenty if its not 2 years old yet

Thats a shame about the filter, must be completely dead. But see if you can get a replacement on warrenty like adgieman said- if not, you should be able to buy a spare pump for the filter from your LFS .

well i got a new pump and a second filter, went for the fluval u3 for 90-150L tanks so should be wel filtered now, glad to say there were no fish deaths and all the fish now look ok, thanks for all the advice
