I've just been browsing through bettas on e-bay and found this advert. (260810417895) Sorry I don't know how to get the link on here! Look on e-bay for betta fish thai fighting fish. Reading through to the end of the description for the male betta you will find the sentence: "They of course will live harmonously with the female of the species" !!!!! They give a link to another address which seems to show that this is a seller of just bettas. How on earth could they write such a statement on their e-bay ad?! I just hope that no newbies buy a male from them and stick him in with a girlie

The thing is, while for us it is not an option, most of the time, in a large enough tank, males can live with females without a problem because the females have the space to get out of the way if they need to.. and that's how they're often farm bred. I do agree that the statement as you have it there is very misleading, given that this is not an option for the vast majority of set-ups.

I have males living together in with females and have never had any problems. They have a large tank that is heavily planted and I have not yet had any fin nipping :good: This is the exception to the norm though and I'm just concerned that someone without much knowledge of bettas may buy a male from them and add a female as company

I also have males in with females....even in a small 20ltr tank. I keep my male king betta in that with a plain VT female. He shows no interest in her which I thought strange because how am I meant to breed them.

Really? You guys keep a male with females even in a 20l? I'd be afraid to risk it. I always thought you couldn't

And Nicki to do the link all you do is copy and past the whole lot in the address bar you know like where you type www.ebay.co.uk. When your looking at the item copy all the stuff in the address bar and paste here

thanks Marie,- I am so rubbish with computers!!!

I would be far too scared to risk mixing male and female in a 20 litre too. I've only ever heard of them being ok together in large tanks. I guess it all depends on the temperament of the individual fish

i had 2 males in a 3ft tank (i didn't know this at the time!) wasn't until 1 was seperated as it attacked another fish that i realised

Prince and Jovi are now seperate of course :good:

Chances are, one day you will come home to a dead fish even if they've lived fine together for years. A 20 litre tank does not give the submissive one a chance to survive in case of any problems, it is foolish to even try it.
