After trying to find out if I live in a soft water area or not, I thought I would post this guide in the hope it might help others ;)

Which areas of the UK have hard water?

Generally speaking, hard water is present in 60% of the country (especially in the eastern, central and southern areas of England) and to varying degrees in the rest of the UK. The water for some Northern cities is supplied from naturally soft water reservoirs in Wales and the Lake District. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, various levels of hardness occur.

* Scotland - Supplies range from soft to various levels of hardness in all areas except for the Strathclyde region and the area served by the Central Scotland Water Development Board, both of which are soft water areas.
* Northern Ireland - Northern division soft to moderately soft.
* Eastern Division - soft to slightly hard
* Southern division - soft to very hard
* Western division - soft to moderately hard

~~waterdrop~~
ps. D'ya think each of ya could put me up for the night if I popped in to each of the above sections with my hardness test kit to double check things? WD

Lincolnshire??

also the eastern division is a bit of a broad statement as Lincolnshire is far east and our water is very hard as it run through limestone.
