Thanks,

I think just a little bit. I dont think he is going to have a large one, thats if he gets one at all

i hope it's a female then. lol.

Easiest and best way to sex them is by venting.

I wouldn't recommend keeping Flowerhorns with anything else. Even the Silver Dollars!

They do become very very aggressive, and do nasty damage to ANY fish!

Here is a pic of my boy at 2.5" at the end of Nov 2009:

Here he is again about a year later Dec 2010 at 12":

Note in the last photo there is a Blood Parrot in with him. She only goes in at breeding time, lays her eggs then is taken out.

Here is one of their babies at just under 1cm:

I think your fish bumped his head...

Cool fish!! I've been debating on getting one but I only have a 55g and finding proper tank mates is stressful.

Haha, yes the bruising won't go down!
And yes, a flowerhorn will need a minimum 75 gallon.
As for tankmates, there is no suitable tankmates.

They become VERY nasty as they grow and will take anything out.
Also if you want the flowerhorn to look how it should be (colors, pearling, KOK) it should be kept in it's own tank.

To the OP, KOK size is 100% genetic. There are 2 types of KOK. a "hard" KOK and a "water" KOK.
A high KOK gene FH would have a pronounced lump at a very small size.

Foods and surroundings DO play a huge part on KOK size too.

What are your water params? (ph, temp etc)

Ammonia 0
Nitrite0
Nitrate 20
Temp 28/29
Ph 7.2

If your wondering why he looks so dark its from stress. He has taken a dislike to a blue acara.

The 10ftx2x2 is getting a watertest today and if all goes well the others will be moved from Hornbags tank
