got 18 guppies yesterday & 5 are dead today 3 looking very ill what is wrong with them & what shuod i do

what size tank, water parameters, other fish etc?

can you describe how the fish look ill? did you notice anything on odd on the dead ones?

Is this a brand new tank? Whether it is or not, that is too many fish to add at one time. I imagine you have a massive ammonia spike along with nitrite too. How did you acclimate them to the tank?

the fish shop did nt say anything about buying that any fish at that time

is it normal for guppies to stay at the bottom of the tank in a group & swiming a little & than the other half at the top of the tank :look:

2 ft long
must be like 4 yrs now
yes they r bright

Problem is overstocking combined with oveloading filter by lots. Guppies, especially the colourful ones like everyone pick, are fragile at the bst of times, and adding 18 fish to a tank is going to be seriously lacking in bacteria for the number of fish. What are the other tank dimensions and what other fish are in there? For now do 15% water change every day, feed lightly every other day or so and get lots of live plants.

Hi 123 :)

Welcome to the forum! :hi:

I'm glad that you decided to join us even though it's because your fish are in trouble. Our members will do all they can to help you, but it will make things easier if you update your profile to include your location and some information about the size tank and the fish you already have. I hope you will resolve your problem quickly and stay around and use your experience to help others too.

Good luck with your sick fishies.

The reason why your guppys are dying is because you bought so many in one go, the filter could not adjust enough to the new bioload and now water quality issues are killing your new guppys and putting anything else in the tank at risk- i would seriously advise you do a 50% water change with dechlorinator ASAP; if you havn't got accurate test kits for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates i'd also advise you pop down to your lfs and get some and test your water asap, posting us your stats when you do  .
In the mean time though, do a daily 20% water change with dechlorinator until you get some test kits or test your water to help prevent water quality issues killing off your guppys and give the filter some time to adjust to the new bioload- what is the total stocking of your tank :) ?

The tank can't be more than 25gals if the average 2ft tank is anything to go by, although you should really work out many gallons it is exactly as it could be less or more. The best way to save your fish right now is to return about half/third the guppys you bought and to keep doing small daily water changes, if you do this the tank should sort itself out sooner or later  .
The seller is a seller, im afraid when it comes to buying fish all you can rely on for info is yourself which is why its very important to reserch all you can before you buy fish- if you have any issues/questions or whatever about fish don't feel shy to ask here as no question is too stupid   B) .
