by the way anyone know what type he is?They never told me at the LFS.

Looks like a regular plakat to me. Hard to tell from the photos if it's male or female.

it male. it flares at its reflection all the time.
and how big will plakat bettas fins get?

and if i were to breed him and the blue female i have what would the fry look ? mutts?

His fin/tail won't grow any bigger than that, the green female is a plaket too.

Females flare as well. There is a fairly subtle difference between the shape of the beards, though.

Plakat fins stay small - don't expect them to get much bigger than they are now.

Can't tell what the fry would be like. Depends on the grandparents and great-grandparents as well as just the parents. Best case scanario is that you get a mix of similar colours and short-finned babies. Could come out with a total mix though and I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up with weird and totally undesirable tail types and even a few deformed ones. In short - only breed fish when you understand fish genetics and the specific lineage of the fish you're trying to breed.

yehh ive been reading bout betta genetics like the Recessive Trait, the dominant trait, and the Genotype.

like if you were to try to breed and long tail betta(vieltail) and a female short finned(plakat)
the fry wouldnt have short finns unless both the parents were short finned.so the fry would all have long finns. a cross between a betta with long fins but a carrier of a short fin gene (L l) and a short finned betta (l l) will give a 50% chance of long fin with short fin gene (L l) and 50% chance of short finned bettas (l l).

i know alittle lol!

VT's are the dominant tail out of all of them. I think half moon plakets are beautiful though, if you get the genetics right, you'll have the perfect betta :good: but that takes a lot of time and breeding

so are you saying VT's and plakat females make a half moon plakat if i get the genetics right?
