I bought some frozen brine shrimp and blood worms for my platys and betta. Can this food transmit any diseases to them and what would be a good varied diet for these fish? Thanks.

ive been feeding my fish brine shrimp and mysis shrimp for years now and they love it. great diet. not sure about any diseases though

Not sure about diseases but you can get ones which are apparently pathogen free which have been treated with... Gamma rays I think?

Your platys will absolutely love it though!

Be careful handling the blood worms. Some people are extremely allergic to them and are affected even by the frozen ones. The first few times you handle them, be aware of how you feel afterward. You don't want to be in big trouble before you notice it if you happen to be one of the people who react to them.

Yes sadly i am one of those people who is very allergic to the touch of blood worms and get very itchy. I still feed my fishes frozen blood worms and live blood worms but i wear gloves at all times when handling it. I use hikari frozen foods. I have found them to be the best for me.

Hiya's,

Has Joshua says, most frozen block food (frozen anyways) are irradiated which kills everything so no need to worry

(dunno if they still do it, but most surgical blades etc were sterilised this way in the uk)

And yes bloodworm allergy effects a large amount of humans, from what i read almost 50% of us are allergic lol (me included grrrr)

So gloves are always ideal to use
