i'm planning on getting a fluval fx5, but i have always used eheim and i was just wondering is this filter easy to set up and run? because i'm a bit confused about it all. so any information would be great thanks

mate this filter is so simple to set up, you even get a dvd that guides you every step of the way :good:
once its set up it's even easier to maintain, i love it!!!!

just remember every 24hrs it shuts down for two minutes, even after 1.5years i still wait with baited breath for it to start again

why does it do that?

^^ Which in English means it switches off to get any trapped air into a place where the pump can remove it, before switching on again, automatically....

Build quality isn't supposed to be as good as Eheim's (or a few other brands for that matter), but the FX5 is better for Mech. filtration apparently. Reliability is thus far un-proven, but with the number of people whom own them, I sincerly hope they are better long-term than the 04 series...

All the best

haha - ppl on here will know id chuck my two penny worth in at some point -

i run 2 of these and have done since they came out - well worth the money - out standing value, and wow what a job they do, in regard setting up, its actually easier than you imagine, maybe one of the best out there for quick set up, with or without the dvd, granted, there are those that are not sure about the fx5 as its a fairly new and ppl want to see life spans over 10 years, so we are a bit off that yet.

my last thought is: you will be glad to get this one

We plan on getting one as well. Very hefty price, but hopefully it'll be worth it.
Now if I could just win a dern auction on ebay! lol

Bidding on one now that ends in a few hours. I just know some butthead is going to come and bid right at the last minute and take it from me.. GRRRR

i paid £100 for my first and £95 for my second with a free temp alarm - no media but had the 6 large sponges which in themselves filters a lot of mess out.
