Fluval Filter Keeps Dying

I am sure they wont miss them at all + it is adding a bit more surface area for bacteria to breed.
I thought the filter was just a bit crappy when i got it as it didnt really even have the force to suck air into the outlet but now it is actually very powerful and is airating the tank nicely.

well as i said i had the same issue but now its fixed. you only need it so that the foam is about 5mm of v the impeller inlet. I noticed this was the problem as if you look underneath the foam you will see a small ring on the foam were it is being sucked into the inlet and thus blocking it.

Ok flow was reduced again so out it came...

I've added some ceramic noodles to the bottom; although I think I could do with more in....I have filter wool just above them and then the sponge; we'll see how this goes before trying the vinegar

How do you get the lid shut if the sponges are lifted?

Also, is vinegar not dangerous to the fish/good bacteria if not rinsed properly?

vinegar is used to clean
the impeller and the inside
of the impeller housing
and is all rinsed off before
being used again the only thing
vinegar would do is lower the pH
a slight bit is good for cleaning
the outside of the front glass
and taking limescale off things

in a push i have
used it to lower ph
on a tank and you can
use bicarb to up the ph
on a tank

How have u got on with the ceramic Nuddles and floss.
Twinkle I simply removed about 1cm of the sponge with a very sharp knife(I chose to remove 1cm as this is about how much the ceramic Nuddles raise the sponge by). This is not a problem as the Carnatic Nuddles make up for lost surface are (du to removing some of the sponge) in fact the ceramic Nuddle have a far greater surface area to hold good bacteria so if anything you are gaining filtration as well as increasing the flow. I belive that is a win win win
