Sounds like Teflon tape that you would use for plumbing fixtures.

not at all like Teflon tape. Read the amazon description. This is a bit thicker than the teflon tape is and the tape is self fusing. If you stretch it as you wrap it around what you want to seal or repair, it will fuse to itself without any adhesive. Great stuff. I have used it several times for some house repairs. And in a pinch for a slight pipe or hose leak, it can seal the leak.

Except for the possible thickness what you describe sounds a lot like Teflon tape. It also wraps around the threads and sticks to itself. The main difference MAY be that Teflon tape is designed more for threads, not a smooth surface..

yeh...Teflon tape would not work for my use in this instance. it will not hold properly on a smooth surface as it has not adhesive. Stretched silicone tape fuses to itself without adhesive.
