Like I said I have gone to plastic/acrylic stuff, even though I have at least 6 unused 5 usg to 3 usg with lights and filters. They are just easier to care for (water changes, et al )

If you have your heart set and the vases are at least 1 usg, go for it! You can upgrade later. Make sure you cover it. Filter is not a necessity or a heater, if you change the water frequently and keep the room temp good. Substrate is not a necessity, but plants, cave, decore are. Plants that go to the surface for the fish to make a hammock and something to hide in.

yes, i think i'll go for the 1-3gallons..because i would like to get would like to get maybe 2 bettas...because i feel terribly sorry for them in the little cups they have them in at the pet store...and there are 2 really REALLY pretty ones there =]

i like the ones with almost..pokey outty fins..or is that just them when they're flaring?

For your 1/2 usg: flower pot! haha. Well you can use it when a fish is sick and needs a salt or epsom salt bath--or for acclimating. Make a plant terrerium. Grow Apple snails

well i still haven't bought one yet..short on the cash for the moment

when they have pokey-outtey fins..does that mean they're flaring? or is that just the way they are???

The description is not ringing any bells. When they flare all their fins will spread out and stick up. Their gill flaps may also spread out like a beard. The intent I believe is to make themselves look larger and more impressive to their adversary. Dogs and cats do the same thing when they are scared or aggravated.

Some Betta will rip their fins if they flare too much. Then they can get fin rot.
