What is everyone feeding their bettas?

Here's something to consider. Bettas are fun to feed because they are voracious eaters. Watching them chase mosquito larvae or strike at fruit flies is great. Even watching them go at regular food. But you have to be careful not to overfeed. Bettas are prone to obesity.

Cleaning out the old cultures is kind of a horror story. But you get used to it.

I fill the culture container with water and let it set for a day then pour out the old medium . After that I set the container and perching material aside to dry and brush off the old fly husks with a cleaning brush . Simple and not messy .

I feed mine Betta pellets from Ken's Fish. They're pretty cheap and are 50% protein. Folks at my local club all rave about Ken's Fish food- there are tons of options.

Yes, my last betta (female) was an absolute maniac and I use to feed her wild caught (I think they were) blood worms that I'd find digging in my garden. She loved them. I don't like doing that in fear of introducing something to them that could be harmful but I did every once in a while.

I must be overfeeding mine. I have it in with a gabillion (ok maybe slightly less) black bar endlers and mine can barely be bothered to get up off whatever plant he's relaxing on. LOL- That's not entirely true, but "voracious" is not how I'd describe him. Maybe if he was in his own tank and I put flightless fruit flies or something in there. Maybe I'll put some in- I keep them around for my hatchet fish and half the other fish I have go after them too- never tried them on the endlers because it's more than one bite for them, but maybe it's time to try.

I have been feeding FD bloodworms for a while. I presoak them for about 5 minutes before I feed and have not had any problems. Aren't they okay if they're reconstituted? They're very soft.

As long as they are fully rehydrated they won't cause problems. But bloodworms are not very nutritious and are best used a treat rather than the main food.
