Fishless Cycling

Out of interest do you cardinals tend to stay in the same spot as a group ? Mine seem to be the most unadventurous cardinals ever

they seem to shoal together quite nicely. they didnt when first introduced but are getting brave now.

Keith - The water stats have been rock solid double zero since I first introduced the fish. I am still testing daily, cant seem to leave the test kit alone lol.

I had no choice with the angel colours. My Wife & two toddler daughters chose "him". I think "he" is great looking.
Your family made a good choice with the Angel :good: . I to have been showing solid zeros, imo fishless seems to be the way forward in regards to creating a stable biofilter. The process can be frustrating at times but if you can hang it out you get the rewards in the end.

Keith.

I have to agree with you there Keith. After my disater with fish in cycling i was determined to make this work. It is definitly the way to go.

Reading this as someone about to undertake the challenge of a fish-less cycle (hopefully IF I can find some Ammonia (I'm in Perth, Australia!)), it's encouraging to see and hear your successes. It would be great to hear more from others too!.
No fear, I will be posting a log and asking lots of questions when, if, the time comes.

I'm glad to hear this thread has maybe encouraged you to cycle your filter/tank using the fishless method.

Keep us posted when you start your cycle, Keith.

Well thought i would give another update to how things are progressing since my cycle.
At the beginning of this week i gave the filter its first clean where sponges were lightly swished around in disgarded tank water, polishing pads replaced, and the filter canisters water emptied. Water parameter checks have been carried out daily since, where i have seen no set backs.
I have also been performing regular weekly water changes of 25-30% in order to get my tank nitrate level close to that of my tap waters. I have managed to reduce those levels from 40ppm to 20ppm with a tap level of 10ppm.

If anyone else wants to share there, after they finished there fishless cycle experiences then please do.

Keith.

i tested my water this morning & it looked like i had trace ammonia in there, not quite 0ppm but not quite 0.25ppm. The fish are all fine so it may of been that it was early & i was tired as i had been up most of the night getting jittery coz I was going to pick up my new motorcycle today.

Will test again in the morning.

I often get that problem with the ammonia test results. When i'm presented with this situation i take the lid off the test tube, then with a plain piece
of paper or the back of the Api test results card place 1cm from the bottom of the tube and then look down through your tested water.

Enjoy your new bike m8, Keith.

Bad day today. All my tetras have caught Ich. I am doing emergency treatment but have lost one of them overnight. :(

The Corys, angel & BN seem fine

water tests are still double zero

Sorry to hear that m8, I'm currently treating my blue acara with sterazin for internal parasites. As for my waters chemistry like you all fine.
Hope your ich clears up soon.
