Hi all,

thought I would post the stats of my fishless cycling log... See the following post for details of the tank and some pics.

I The water has been in the tank for 3 days and I added the filter today with media from one of my other tanks. The reading is before I added ammonia.

Hi, look forward to watching the progress :) Hope you've got yourt patient head on!
The way you've presented your stats is a little hard to read though. Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and pH are all we'll need to see and I know waterdrop (who will no doubt help you along at some point!) advised me just to put day no. and hours since adding ammonia rather than dates and times.
Good luck with it :)

Thanks Ellena,

I will reduce the amount of info in the post (Got a bit excited lol). Patience is one thing I have in abundance (thankfully), hopefully adding the filter media from the old tank will help speed up the process. I have decided to go with the dailly amount method rather than the add and wait method, even thou this will take a lot longer it should ensure a large amount of bacteria at the end of the cycle.

Yes, ellena has got my number, I refuse to try and interpret that string of numbers :p

Seriously though, let us know which test kits produced which numbers there...

i am using the tetratest lab.

Day 2 No3 10 No2 1 NH3 2

I am ow working on double the dose.

He he I should know better, did get a degree in Chemistry many years ago!! I am going to put it down to my Bells Palsy, since getting it I have been missing letters and allsorts LOL

Day 2 & 3 log

NO3 NO2 NH3
Day 2 10 1 2 Before adding 9ml 9.5% ammonia
Day 3 25 0.5 6 Before adding 9ml 9.5% ammonia

Doh !!

Just realised I should not have been doubling up the amount of ammonia, now i ahve put 4 times what I should have in.

Should I stop adding amoinia for 4 days and let the levels come down now?

Drat!!!

Do a water change and then re-charge to the right amount of ammonia. You don't want the levels up in the 8ppm range because that will grow the wrong species of bacteria. Your current situation is too short though to cause a problem so don't worry about it, just reset and things will be ok.

~~waterdrop~~

Ok I have done a 70% waterchange, the Ammoina level in the tank after the change is 2ppmm,

I wont add any more ammonia now until tomorrow.

yeah if your ammonia is up at 5ppm ish then don't add another dose, as WD say's you want it below 8ppm all the time.

OK degsod, you're still winning the category for hard to understand, lol

But looking at that it probably means you're closer now to where you want to be. :)

Hey, your problem is that the spaces you enter in your message don't come up when we are looking at it, so your table doesn't align and it makes it much harder to read.

You need to change your format, I tried reading these things but it's just impossible.... take a look at your previous posts. It won't work because spacing doesn't come through. This is due to the fact that HTML in the webpages doesn't format any more spaces than two - this is so people can code, otherwise we'd have random spaces all over the place in every webpage ever made.

Stop trying to use a table format and just stick to something like:

Day 3
NH3: 4 ppm
NO2: 0 ppm

or something
