Algae bloom

It's not silly, I keep thinking the same. I can see a glow from the bulb, so I assume it's on.
Daphnia would get eaten, otherwise a good idea.
The only thing I could do with this UV filter is further restrict flow, I'll try pinching tube to see if that helps.

You could stop the fertiliser for a week and that might help but if there's no improvement after a week, contact the shop you bought it from and see if they have any ideas. Theoretically it should have made at least some difference after a few days.

Finally after a week it seems to be getting better. Not sure if it has just run it's natural course, or UV made a difference, but we are going in the right direction.

Wow, much better than the original picture you posted. :)

Keep the UV unit running for a few more weeks and then switch it off and see how it goes. Or you can keep it running if you like but it shouldn't be needed once it's cleared. If you do keep it running, the UV globes do burn out and need replacing. There might be a life expectancy on the packaging, which should tell you how long it will last for. You can replace the globes in some units but not others.

2 weeks now, still not 100%, but much better. Maybe another week and well be back to normal. I looked at better filters, but all I could find is 50 micron's, and apparently algae is 1 micron. So that's why filters are useless for this.

Edit, just realised other pictures from other side, but it is same tank, I promise........
