One of the paracyprichromis nigripinnis is definately holding this time, (same one as in the pic in a thread lower down) However I am worried about her. I noticed she looked skinny last night when I fed them, but presumed she was pouching her food as usual, but tonight I checked her first before adding food and sure enough she has a pouch full of little dark things which I am presuming eggs not last nights food still. She has gone really thin quickly (like overnight), not ever having these fish before is it normal for them  to go skinny after spawning. I am use to americans loosing a little bit of belly once spawning, but she seems really worryingly thin.

Q. If I net her would she spit the eggs out, so she can eat better. I am worried she is not going to survive holding eggs with her looking so skinny, or would she spit them on her own accord if she is not upto holding them.

Thanks in advance :)

My cyps don't feed when they are holding ,but soon get back into condition when they release the fry,if you try to catch her she will prob release the fry but they might not be big enough to survive, what other fish are in your set up?,myself I would just leave her till she releases the fry

Apart from the nigripinnis there is a single leilupi and a julie thats all. This would be day 3, I have read they will hold for upto 20 days, I am seriously worried about the skinnyness of her. I will keep a close eye on her if she looses any more condition I will net her and hope she spits the eggs. I am not intending to breed them so I am not worried about loosing the eggs.

Thanks for your reply :)

If you don't net her and she spits the fry ,unlikely they would survive anyway ,not with leleupi and Julies in there, and yes they do hold for around three weeks sometimes longer, best of luck trying to catch her,but honestly I would hang on a bit longer

She spat the eggs overnight by the look as she is no longer holding. Pleased I didn't have to intervene I just hope she builds up condition before spawning again.

She will. But they will continue to spawn. Once they start, they don't tend to stop.
