Fish Going Missing

Hello everyone

I noticed today that some of my fish have gone missing. I had 10 guppies and lots of fry I now have 6 guppies and no fry. No dead fish in the tank or stuck to the filter. Also one of my mollies just rolled over and died infront of me this afternoon.

All my levels are spot on
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20-30
Ph 7

I went into my LFS last week and bought 6 corys, and 2 bristlenose plecs and a catfish that's was supposed to be friendly. M4tt is going to post a photo of it up for me as I don't have my pc setup.

I also picked up another male and female fish which I don't know the name of m4tt will also post a photo of the female up.

The catfish is now in my 125ltr tank it is going back to the LFS as I believe it has been eating my guppies through the night.

Question is do catfish prey on other fish ??
Also what sort of catfish is it ??

Looking on aquaticstoyoudoor the catfish looks like a featherfin catfish. The other fish I can't seem to find

Hi
The catfish looks like a synodontis eupterus (featherfin). They tend to be rather peaceful fish but do require plenty of places to hide. I suppose they would have the potential to eat other smaller fish especially fry.
Just for your information also, you should probably only have one plec as they do grow very large.

The fish in top picture (left) looks like it could be a gourami possibly a honey gourami but I am not sure!

The 2 bristlenose Plecos are tank bred and only grow to 12cm maximum. I took my 2 common Plecos back to the LFS as I was informed they would grow to large for my tank. One of the bristlenose Plecos will be added to my 125ltr tank onces it's cycled.

Do you think the catfish would be capable of eating 4 adult guppies and around 10 fry since Tuesday?

Noah I had everything out of the tank yesterday doing a 90% water change there was no remains and no fish no bones no nothing

Synodontis of some sort, Eupterus Hybrid most likely, your other is a Golden Wonder Panchax.

Probably your Panchax eating your other fish though! Big mouth and very predatory,, i've seen an adult male eat a medium sized platy and that was much bigger than your guppies!

Synodontis are more predatory at night, chances are he snaffled up your babies from the bottom and the panchax ate the others. I would return both tbh.

Soon after I added my featherfin syno to my tank 2 neons and 4 small beacons mysteriously disappeared within a couple of weeks -again no bodies were ever found and I'd had them for months with no previous losses or signs of illness. Strongly suspect synos eat smaller fish.

I'm not taking any more risks so both fish types are going back to the shop.
