Filterting Question

You can try taking the entire filter uplift pipe out of the tank and then see if you can separate the top part. Then put the uplift tube back in the tank.

The intake from the Fluval does go inside the opaque uplift tube.

I would just cut the top part off directly underneath it where it joins the uplift tube.

Yeah i tried to take it out liek that but didnt work, seems to be REALLY tight on there lol. Ill have to cut it. Would it still clean the water enough if ti was pulling water from under the plate?

You want your canister filter to just pull from under the plate. The idea is to block off one side so that the water under the late must come through the gravel then use the other tube to put all of that flow through your canister. That way the gravel will act as a big biological filter and the canister can take care of the flow and any particles that get through the gravel.

Ok well ill cut the top of the left uplift pipe off (the one closest to my intake tube of the canister) and insert the canister. Ill try to use rubber bags to make sure no fish can swim down under. And ill just leave the other pipe how it is, it just wont be running anymore lol. Ill post pictures when i finish to make srue i done the right thing. But i cant do it atm, as its 1:45 am.. ill do it 2moro when im home and ill post :)

Thanks everyone.

Depending on the particular undergravel you are using, the two sides may be connected to each other underneath. If that is the case, you will want to block he other tube so water doesn't just go down that side and up the other side.

Hmm, i dont understand this to be honest lol. Would i be better of just buying an air pump for oxygen and leaving the UGF off always? Since i have the external filter anyway?

what part don't you understand. You get to use the external canister filter (Fluval) to run the undergravel as well as itself. You get 2 filters running with only one pump. Then you can have the air pump to run an airstone for decoration or whenever you want it on.

The undergravel filter or the Fluval should provide plenty of oxygen if they are set up properly.

It's pointless buying another air pump for oxygen if you still have the original air pump. The only reason to buy a different air pump would be to bget a quieter pump.

You can remove the undergravel and rely purely on the Fluval if you want. But if that is your choice, why did you get an undergravel and a power filter to start with?

Bought the tank fully set up from ebay for cheap and it was great condition. Hmm how shoudl i set it up to be able to get enough oxygen going? Ill turn off the air pump at night while running an air stone i have during the day. Would that be ok?

Ill set this up 2moro and hope it all goes fine. Do i just use a standard plastic bag to cover it so fish cant go through or should i use some specific type?

ok, gotcha regarding the tank from ebay. Looks like it's in pretty good shape, no scratches and comes with a light and filters :)

If you have the Fluval outlet just under the surface, but spraying across the tank and slightly upwards, then it will create a fair bit of surface turbulence and that should provide sufficient oxygen for the fish.

If the Fluval is spraying the water across the surface (or just under the surface) then you can have the air pump on whenever you want.

You can use any sort of plastic bag (as long as it's free of chemicals) to put over the gap where the Fluval intake pipe and the uplift tube join. I use a plastic fish bag from the petshop. If there is only a small gap (1-2mm) you don't have to use anything to cover the gaps.

Hey i just stuffed some plastic into the hole that it was at, incase rubber would polute the water. Ill get some pics of it later tonight. Gonna eat, im starving.

Thanks everyone,
Indir

EDIT:
Here are the pictures:
Bubbles: (If u look really close you can see i just stuffed some plastic bag rolled up into the little gap lol)

I am going to buy an air stone for the back of the tank to run during the day for extra oxygen while their off at night (the fluval is breaking the surface as its about half out of the water and half in lol) and it will make it look good too.
