Filter Media In A Aquaone Ar

Hi all, I am upgrading my tank from the AR850 to the AR980.
I am running a external filter on my 850 but with my 980 I am wanting to use the built in filter.
I am either going to run both filters together to seed the new filter or transfer the media into the new filter, unsure at the minute (thanks Kitty Kat for your help ).

After doing some research online I have read that a fair few people have changed the media in the compartments....

Which way do you guys have yours?? or what will be the best way???

The basic way its set up
compartment 1 - top white sponge - middle black sponge - bottom carbon
compartment 2 - top white sponge - middle black sponge - bottom noodles
compartment 3 - top white sponge - middle black sponge - bottom noodles (the white sponges may be carbon cartridges but im unsure, this is what it says in the 'instruction manual')

In my external at the minute there is (top to bottom, there are 3 compartments) Wool & black sponge - Blue Sponge & Zeolite - Blue Sponge and Noodles

I would use the media from the external in the internal. Did you use the internal on the 850 too? I have the 620 and non of the media is correct but it works just fine. The water quality is excellent.

No on the 850 I used the external canister (aquis advanced 750) this came with the tank already, but isn't big enough to use on the 950.
I am unsure if transferring the media will work because of the change in oxygen levels to the media (this is what I have been advised, im not clever enough to know this myself )

What media so you use??

I have

bottom - ceramic noodles
middle - black sponge
top - filter wool (not the stuff that comes with the tank)

You don't "need" the filter wool; its just useful for catching the small bits of dirt. If you wanted some I can send you a bit of you want?

I have filter wool as I use it in my other filter now, got a spare roll of it too

Do you have that layout in all compartments??

I have LOADS of filterwool. To buy the aqua one stuff it was £8, to buy an unbranded one that I have to cut myself from a 7ft by 4 ft roll it was £7. No brainer really lol.

Mine is made up of noodles and generic filter sponges. they're not in any order what so ever other than first compartment is full of sponge, the next one is full of noodles. I wouldn't worry about different oxygen levels, if you have mature media then use some of it to get the new tank up and running. I have done this successfully with my last 4 tanks seeded from the previous tank. No problem at all. All keep constant readings of 0 and fish are healthy.

Yeah I buy all my wool from ebay in rolls

I had mine set up with bio media on the bottom (noodles), rough sponge above that, then filter wool to collect all the dirt. I replaced the filter wool with new stuff often.
