And your fish can go a week without food easy, a two weeks even.

Just hide your fish food. Your friends can't add more if they don't know where it is, can they?

my brother starved a dozen feeder guppies to death. they went two weeks on nothing but cannibalism and algae in an unheated tank.

i vote with the medicine organizer. besides, you'll want to also have people check that your heater's working, water level's ok, no deadies growing fungus on the bottom, etc. you know, the daily spot-checks you perform without even thinking about it.

If you are not comfortable with this, the best thing to do is make little 1 day packs in individual tinfoil parcels...and only enough to last the week...friends don't give more than 1 days amount per day 'cos they know the food would run out before the end of the hols...this does usually work but make sure you hide all other foods!!!

I've come back from a holiday and found a layer of food on the bottom of the tank and water chem. levels all over the place because the person looking after the fish said "they were still hungry after the portion you left for me so I put some more in from the container"

you can leave ur tank without food for upto a week mabye more and ur fish will scavange the gravel if they are hungry.
so u will hav clean gravel when u get back.

at that temp, i think the fish could survive a few weeks... they would be hungry, but they would live
