right well i was poking around on ebay and as i need some fans for my soon to be lighting i thought i might aswell buy ahead so want to know if this would work.

this is my adapter/ transformer whatever you wanna call it
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Universal-Mains-...1QQcmdZViewItem

and then id buy two of these
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12V-DC-90MM-SQUARE-F...VQQcmdZViewItem

and as i understand it i need to connect the two red wires together and the two black wires off the fan sperately, put them into one of those screwy plastic things then get the black and white wire from the transformer, link that to the red one and the black wire to the fans black wire. yer .... that should work, well its the same as bigc. any suggestions or tips greatly apreciated as im not the best with electrics. For example on holiday with a foreign adapter one of the pins got stuck in the socket so i went to grab it.. bad idea :D

Yeah no problems
There should be a little dial on the back of the plug where the pins are....turn it round until it is at 12v

On the fans.
Ground = Black wire
Live = Red wire

On the transformer.
Totally Black wire = Ground
Black with White stripe = Live

Connect Black wire from transformer to black wire from the fans via connector block.

Hey Presto!

tried to get as best pics as i could with the writing on.

Just make sure the total ampere rating of the fans you plan to use is comfortably less than what the adaptor can handle , if not you risk overheating the transformer and possibly causing a fire hazard.

I am not an electrician, and I asked the guys at Maplins for the right pieces of kit. Not sure if you have enough milliamps on that adaptor to run 2xfans. If no one comes forward on here then take the adaptor to Maplins and ask them if it has enough juice to run the 2xfans.
safely

£4.99 for an plain old 80mm fan?? :blink:

There are dozens of vendors on ebay that accept paypal who sell 80mm fans for like £0.99 a throw.

Yeah, not enough current capacity there for sure. Most fans are in the 10-20 watt range which puts them at 833mA to 1667mA each. You're probably looking for something around 2-3A DC

ok thanks :) also if you look at all the 99p fans they have postage of like £1.99 and also most dont accept paypal which is the only way i can get things of ebay.

Rhys, if you've not already paid up I'd recommend one of these;

Fans - four bank

2 bank

I've got the 4x version and certainly didn't pay as much as being asked here - can't find my 'seller' but have a root around theifbay on the home/Garden - pets - fish bit and you'll probably find others?

Use mine in conjunction with a heat sensor/thermostat so sees to itself and woks a treat. :good:
