Hi,can you post a picture of the screen?
Cheers matesounds like a messed up MBR (master boot record) to me i really dont have time now but if no one else sorts it out ill get back to you later on
cheers mateTry Last Known good configuration and if not ok, Safe Mode. Brief instructions below.
-Turn off computer
-Turn back on and start tapping F8 straight away until you see "Advanced boot menu option". It's a black screen with white letters
-Choose "Last known good configuration" using the up and down error keys and then hit Enter once highlighted the correct option.
-If it restarts to the same error, then shut down and load the Advanced boot menu with F8 again, but this time select "Safe Mode" from the list.
-If it loads to "Safe Mode"(which is Windows running in basic mode without any additional stuff that may have caused the problem), do System restore to before the problem happened.
System Restore can be loaded like that:
-Start menu/Accessories/System Tools/System restore
Edit: System restore will not delete data, or reinstall the OS. Once loaded, you need to select a date before the problem happened and then follow the onscreen instructions. The computer will then restart and will try restoring the computer.
If system files necessary for the OS to start were corrupted, it may not help and selecting Safe Mode from the menu will bring to the same error above "Error loading OS".
In Windows XP you need the "Recovry console" to repair Master boot record, so if not isntalled previously, you won't have it in the menu on the "Advanced boot menu options", so only other way is to reinstall the operating system.
That error may also indicate bad sectors on the hard drive.
If reinstalling the OS does not help/stalls/give error, then change the hard drive

Ok thanks for your help.F8 is the Windows options, but if it's not finding an operating system, it won't even get near the F8 menu.
You're going to need a Windows XP install/recovery disk, or a recovery partition to fix this. It could also simply be a failing hard drive.
You'll need to boot into a 'recovery console' and use the 'fixmbr' command. You can find much more about these things on Google.Ok thanks for your help.F8 is the Windows options, but if it's not finding an operating system, it won't even get near the F8 menu.
