Dumbest thing I've seen in quite a long time

I don't blame the newcomers who get swindled. Some people who should know better choose not to, and scams like this are easily avoided if you connect your budget to your brain. That's all true. But convenience seeking consumers are a marketers dream, and when I look at my Facebook feed, they throw ads at me that are insulting. Non science based medicine, internet health fads, religious and political propaganda... Betta water fits right in.

Shame on the companies and the people who choose to sell these things. But as a society, we love our gangsters, crooks and scammers when they get away with it and don't target us, and we're in on it if we think this kind of marketing is clever rather than unethical. Too many people probably think we should put a shot of melafix into Betta water and raise a toast to them.

Silly me. I pour my well-conditioned water down the drain during water changes. I should bottle and sell it!

Classic quote from WC Feilds;
You can fool some of the people some of the time and that is enough to make a good living.
I agree with Gary that this is a seller with low moral standards type thing.
Unfortunately, the fish/pet trade has absolutely no regulation [ beyond type of fish allowed to be sold] so if that potion you paid good money for doesn't do what it says you have no recourse at all.
Many of the companies involved with fish have much broader business models so reputation or reviews mean very little.
Seachem is "3 man operation"[ 52 emplyees] and API is owned by Mars Candy. Aqueon and many manufacturers and pet stores like the one selling this water are all owned by Central Garden and Pet.
Multi million dollar businesses with little to no accountability for their products or claims made of the proprietary ingredients.
When I see the word proprietary I always replace it with if you knew you would do it yourself for way less $~!
