Driftwood

i was wondering if i could use natural drift wood, fresh from the beach. I need more things for my 20gal because i want something different.

You'd have to boil it for hours in an extremely diluted bleach solution. I collect my own rocks, and that's what I do, I could be wrong with the protocol for driftwood though

It won't need boiling, certainly not for hours! That will just cook the wood and cause it rot quicker.

It's very, very unlikely that it be carrying any pathogens that could affect your fish, as they're normally very specific to salt or freshwater.

Pour boiling water over it and leave it to soak, Do that two or three times, let it dry out completely and it should be safe.

Rocks shouldn't be boiled either; if they have air pockets in them, they could explode!

XD I was told to do that by many people, and as of yet, I have not had any rock bombs!

Basically... +1! Suprising how quick wood breaks down when boiled.
