Disgustingly Small Betta Tanks On Ebay

That is the usual story. Comfortable sized tanks are too heavy to use as a dining table centerpiece or an ornament on a shelf on the desk. Maintaining filtration takes work. People don't want work, they want a little moving thing swimming around a glass container. Sellers make more money selling those tanks than trying to convince people to buy decent ones. The popular public opinion is that it's okay to put a betta in something that big.

Yep... it's very unfortunate.

the majority of people on this forum need to lighten up...I don't know if you are passed 40 and think that projecting an image of dry maturity is the most appropriate approach...jeese

As a UK citizen, I can clearly state that the comments by "angelofdeath" do not represent the views of British people.

i dont think my comments are going to spark of an international war...justification is uneccesary, only a true idiot would think i was serious

if it was just a joke then do you have a problem with apolgising and saying your sorry?

Well Angelofdeath.....may be when you're a bit older and wiser you'll learn the difference between being funny and being insulting. This is a forum with members from all over the world and comments like that are not appreciated (by any age group)

Ok guys knock it off....back to topic or this thread is cut short.

i see this has gotten uneccesarily heated, i apologise if i offended anyone as tbh when i typed it initialy i was emoted by the youtube vids

but i wont have insults thrown at me in PM's

We dont condone threats by PM...if you want to take it further then let me know.

I am very sorry if I in turn have offended someone. Thank you for your apology.

i agree with some of the other posts, the only way to stop things like this is to educate. when i started odd a freind told me they would be fine in a tiny cup. but i felt bad for my little buddy then bumped him up to a half gallon. (which is not great for travling) but now his final home if the pimped out five gallon tank with a heater and filter. he is a happy betta boy now.
why did i change, i was educated byt true betta freinds that told me what would make a happy betta. i later did the same for my brother when he got a betta. we can change the world for these fish one person at a time

my dad bought a betta and stuck it in a pint glass....

I rescued him though, now he is happy in my 5.8 gall filtered and heated

I think that if people really want to use a betta as a centre piece then a nice 2 gal vase does the job, the size still isn't really ideal but its better that the junk at the start of this thread.

Honestly its incorrect education that keeps these silly peeps in business. When you first started out with bettas what was you first told (in most cases not all)... a betta can live in a tiny tank with no filter, and lets face it, to begin with we belived it, it wasn't until we ourselves were educated correctly that we realised the error in it.

Absolutely. I thought for years that a betta was some kind of miracle fish that could live in a few drops of water. Fortunately for the bettas, I did my research and found out otherwise BEFORE I bought one. But who can blame people for thinking that 'research' is asking the people at the LFS? The problem is when fish store owners or employees believe - or would like their customers to believe - that it's okay to keep a betta in a glass. When the people who are SELLING the bettas tell people they need a one gal tank, absolute minimum, people will listen. I'd be more inclined to listen to a fish store owner than old Aunt Martha "when I was little I kept a Siamese Fighter in a drinking glass...", even if I was a complete idiot who had never kept a fish before. IMO the reeducation has to start with pet shop owners and employees.

you want to know the strangest place I have gotten good betta advice? other then my parents who to me and my sisters suprise actualy raised and breed bettas before we were born.

but yea the strangest place....WALMART the other day.

I was having a look at their 1 gallon bowls for grow outs and my husband picked up a 12 ounce betta cup and said something to me, a tall older guy with tattos stops stocking the shelves, walks up to me and starts talking to me about how the bettas really need more room then 12 ounces, and if I even went for the inch of fish rule a betta needs between a 2-5 gallon tank and they prefer a heater too.

what a shocker :hyper:
