Thats interesting about the frogs in with yours,, you obv don't have any trouble at all then. I've got 3 frogs but they are in the comunity tank but i rarely see them as they hide in the gravel or under the cave.

yeah the betta doesn't mind them at all, which is interesting becuase this is an aggressive male, he killed a platy before, and when i kept him in a divided tank, i came home ot find the divider had failed and my smaller male betta had nips all over him

I used to keep my frogs in the community tank, but it was too much effort, becuase i insist on feeding them with tweezers to make sure they get enough, and it was too difficult to find them all the time, so i just moved them into my 5.8 and they seam happy enough

as for the betta bowls, its horrific yes, but as long as ignorance provails, people will be making money and causing sufffering for the fish. It happens all the time, today for example, i was in Wilsons and the sales clerk was telling a woman her new community tank needs to stand for '24 hours' at least, or her fish will die. he gave no indication of cycling, or even dechlorinating the water

Slightly off topic but the people at Wilsons are idiots. One of the sales clerk clearly thinks she knows it all, but i realised she was a google idiot when i asked if they sell betta fish, and she replied with 'what's a betta?'

The know-it-alls are SO annoying... like Miss-I've-Been-In-The-Industry-Six-Years. I bought a betta off her (ahem: rescued it) and I happened to make a comment on the appalling health of the other bettas. So she told me that the other bettas - that were lying motionless on the bottom of the cups - were perfectly healthy, 'I've been in the industry six years and trust me I know'. Trust her? If she told me a snake had no legs, I'd check before I bought it.

The ignorant people are as bad as the dishonest people. After a while people usually work out the dishonest people and learn to take their advice with a grain of salt. But when they're just plain ignorant you'd never bloody know. What really annoys me is when people sell incompatible fish or sensitive fish to newbies. I got totally hooked on keeping and breeding fish. I know how rewarding and enjoyable it can be as a hobby. And it really upsets me when people who'd like to find out get disillusioned and give up because they think it's their fault that all their fish died. It isn't their fault when the information isn't made available anywhere except the internet. A lot of people who might be interested in getting an aquarium are retirees who have more time to devote to hobbies like fishkeeping and who are computer illiterate. You can't blame lack of research; I have fishkeeping books that claim to be all about setting up aquariums from scratch that make no mention to cycling a tank at all.

its just as bad as seeing repulsive videos on youtube of several goldfish in 1-5 gallon tanks, and the turtles! so poorly treated by some.

I saw one video called 'my tortoises', in which two medium sized yellow bellied sliders were being kept in a BUCKET, with one rock that was UNDERWATER, very upsetting, the turtles looked so distressed

I am quite sure there are mindless giggling kids from the uk as well, there are dumb people in every country, not just america and it is extreamly rude to paint everyone with the same brush.

It is remotely possiable to say there is more idiots in the US because of a greater population, thus a greater amount of idiots but spread over a huge population. The places with a smaller populations will have by the numbers less idiots.

I think the point Angel is trying to make that the people posting betta fight videos on Youtube are mostly american, mindless giggling American morons. Not that all americans are mindless giggling morons, or that there are no mindless giggling morons in any other country.

Anyways.... back to the original topic...
When I first got into bettas.. I think the gumball deathtraps were posted at a forums I used to go to and how they tryed to contact the person who made them to tell them that they weren't suitable.
And if memory serves correct, the seller didn't give a flying flip.
