Discus Spawned Again

So after much waiting, i tried one last trick, and within 24 hours my discus have spawned again! At long last! But every time so far they have eaten the eggs, so i put over a cone guard this time. But, since putting it on, the discus have kept clear of it....scared of the guard i guess. So i have put an air stone next to the eggs to do the 'fanning'. What do you think? Good idea or not? Will the discus go back to the eggs?

Because of the shape of the cone (cone shapped haha), the air from the air stone, despite being right at the base, goes vertically up and does not touch the eggs. Is this normal? it obviously moves the water round about the eggs, but not over them

I would think that would be good enough, as you don't want the bubbles hitting the eggs directly. I have done the same thing with Angel eggs and the eggs/fry turned out ok.

might work for now but the eggs are being abandoned by the parents and they probably wont then produce the slime coat the fry need when they hatch. al i right in thinking this is a community set up?

no they are in a breeding tank just now. They used to be in a community tank, but were spawning every 7 days and causing hell for all the other fish! But when i eventually got this cover for the cone, they went on strike and didnt spawn for quite some time.

I guess you are right about the slime coat Maybe their instincts will kick in when they see the eggs wriggle, but just now they are hiding from the cone cover

id just take the cover out and let them get on with it. Try not to go near the tank till the eggs are wriggling and hopefully they will become good parents with a bit of patients, good luck
