well i got sand. but its covered in fish poo. how can i get rid of this?

thanks

I get this with my sand, it seems to be the norm for this type of substrate. I quickly vaccum the surface of my sand to get rid of any dirt each time I do a waterchange.

Clean it with standard gravel vac or just a length of clear hose. Just syphon the muck from the surface of the sand by moving the end of the tube about 1>2 cm above the sand in a circular motion.. You will suck up a bit of sand at first but practice makes perfect.

tanks i will look into getting a gravel vac :) thanks

vacuum it with what?

How do you do your water changes and get rid of the debris without a gravel vac?

You also need to gently slope your sand from high at the back of the tank sloping lower at the front of the tank, then position yor filter inlet as near to the bottom of the sand without sucking any up which will create a current flow towards the filter and suck some of the poo out.

This will help, but you wont get rid of all of it all of the time.

Console yourself with the fact that there isn't any more poo than there was when you had gravel; you can just see it now instead of it all sinking into the gravel, which makes it easier to clean up :good:

If you do end up sucking up a lot of sand (I did too, when I first changed) you can always just tip it back into the tank, after giving it a swill in the bucket to clean it ;)

ok thanks everyone. i though i might do myself a vacuum for the tank :P i used a air pipe which you use for air bubble :) its looks sooo much more better now :)
