Dan-Cr4 Fishless Cycle

This Sunday (if all stays well) will be the earliest, if not Sunday, then it will be the following Friday when im next free. This Sunday may be cutting it a bit fine as that would give me exactly 7 days, so probably the Friday 23rd will be the day. I will see what some of the more experianced members on here recommend.

Day 33 8pm results.....

ammonia : 0

nitrite : 0

nitrate : 80+ (darker than 80, not as dark as 160)

ph : 7.8

temp : 84

all still holding steady. i found a really small snail on the glass of the tank tonight, will try and get a picture up tomorrow if my camera can photograph something that small. it must of moved in with the plants.

You're already 3 days into the qualifying week and its looking good. Biofilter is clearly handling tons of ammonia going in...

Day 34 : 8am result for ammonia was 0 and for nitrite was 0. so that makes day 4 of double 0's. so far so good but i am getting nervous now that i might have more to look after, than just a filter and water this time next week.

On another note I have got 3 snails (thats 2 more i found) in my tank and i did not invite them in, they must have moved in with the plants. I did want malaysian Trumpet Snails but the snails in my tank are so small i dont think i would be able to get a good picture of them, and whats the chance of them being MTS, i would guess a big ZERO.

just charging me camera batteries and will try to get a pic (my 5MP phone camera cant get a decent pic), but the snails being so small i dont know if anyone will be able to guess what they are.

I think you should post over in the inverts section about the infestation lol. I've read things over there about lures of cucumber and cups?? lol, i have no idea

Remember to turn your macro setting on the camera if it has one ;)

i knew it was all going to well. tonights 8pm result was not too good :/

heres the results.....

ammonia : 0

nitrite : 0

nitrate : 160

ph : 6.0

temperature 84

as you can see i have had a terrible ph crash, tested twice using api kit and once with the nutrafin kit and both are backing each other up. going for a major water change. lets see if it puts me back on track, it probably will cause me a couple of days extra cycling.

i knew the cycle was going too well, but hey at least it did it why the tank is still fishless. so at the moment im doing a big water change, recharge with ammonia and aqua plus and see how i get on.

thanks Ryefish, hopefully it will be ok. refilling now, i changed around 85%, so see how that goes. gonna try and match the temperature best i can.

i did not have any bi-Carb in the house thats why i decided to go for the water change, Bi-Carb is on the tesco delivery list this week though

you can't use bi-carb when you have fish apparently, so a waterchange is probably for the best. Bi-Carb has been good for me with PH drops every other day and lugging 20+ litres around isn't fun. It should be more stable though once you've finished this week with the maintenance water changes you'll be doing to keep your fish happy :D

Do we get pics when you add your fish? :)

Hi Ryefish, yes i will be adding pictures once fish have been added. I did a bit of aqua gardening why i did the water change as well, trimmed some of the plants in the tank and got rid of any bad bits, also I got rid of the snails why i did the water change as well, i had four of them, hoping thats all there was.

So glad i got an home made python system so im not carrying loads of buckets to and from the bathroom.

water change is complete, added aqua plus and recharged the ammonia, the ph is back up to 7.8 and temp was a little high at 86, but will have to wait now til tomorrow to see where i am regarding my qualifying week.

i have updated the table on the first post.

DAY 35 :

Here we are 10 hours since i added the ammonia after yesterdays PH crash then water change. I did all 4 tests this morning. heres todays 8am results.....

ammonia : 0 :good:

nitrite : 0 :good:

nitrate : 40

ph : 7.8 :good:

temperature : 84 :good:

well as its only been 10 hours since recharging the ammonia im happy that the ammonia and nitrite cleared within that time. the nitrate is still a little high but i think thats because i did not change the water all the way down to the substrate (im just guessing thats the reason). The PH has stayed steady since 10pm last night so im happy with that, will see what tonights results bring. I just hope im back on track again
