Dan-Cr4 Fishless Cycle

How high can your nitrate(NO3) test measure?

the highest on test sheet is 110 mg/L. I will be doing full tests again tonight at 20:00, this mornings ammonia again was zero so it processed 4.9 in 12 hours.

So your ammonia has dropped from 4ppm to zero ppm for several days, your nitrite(NO2) is pegged up at the max and your nitrate(NO3) is pegged up at the max. Is that correct?

If feels very odd this early in the game but I'm wondering if we could use a full water change and recharge. I'm still thinking about it but I'm going to throw the idea out there in case any other members want to comment...

Hi

yes both nitrate and nitrite are at the max for four days now.

i am willing to do a water change if you think that would be best, nothing has changed in 4 days so not sure if that is good, bad or as it should be, what do you all think? i have updated the table in the first post.

did my 8pm tests tonight and are as follows

amm: 0

nitrate : 110

nitrite 3.3

ph : 8.0

thanks

Danny

There's one other thread going which had a lot of NO2 and NO3 early on and that person had dumped in Nutrafin Cycle, that's not the case with you is it?

I think you could pick some time that's convenient to you (no hurry) and perform a 90% (means down to the gravel) deep-gravel-clean-water-change (with conditioner, temp-matching and a recharge of the ammonia) to lower the nitrite and nitrate since they can slow the growth process when their concentrations get high.

Hi WD

No the only thing thats gone into the tank was when i filled it and that was nutrafin aquaplus, but only when it was filled on day one. I have not bought any other chemicals as i read most dont do anything. Apart from the aquaplus on day one, i have only added ammonia at 8pm on the days it needed it.

i will do a water change tommorow.

thanks for your help.

Danny

Ok, i done a few tests today, started at 8am with my normal ammonia test, again it had dropped to 0 in 12 hours. Then at 9am i did a 90% water change and added some nutrafin aquaplus then added ammonia to take it upto 4.9 mg/L. did tests at 10 am the results were

Amm : 4.9

nitrate : 50

nitrite 1.6

ph : 7.5

temperature : 74

so nitrate dropped to 50, nitrite dropped to 1.6 and ph dropped to 7.5 after the water change.

tonights 8pm test were

amm : 0 (so again it cleared from this mornings 10am result)

nitrate : 50 (stayed the same as this morning)

nitrite : 3.3 (that has risen to 3.3)

ph 7.5 (stayed the same as this mornigs 10am test)

temp of water is 80 (thats warming up from this mornings change)

i have updated the chart on first post

It looks to me like things are moving along very nicely with your cycle. You are already producing both nitrite and nitrates.

Hi OldMan47

thanks for the reply, thats good to know its coming along ok.

This morninga 8am ammonia test was 0 so it processed it in 12 hours again'

tonights 8pm results are

amm: 0

Nitrate : 110 (gone up since yesterday)

Nitrite : 3.3 (same as yesterday)

PH : 8.0 (gone up since yesterday)

I added ammonia after testing to take it back up. I have also updated the table on the first post of this thread.

thanks

Danny

this mornings ammonia test was 0. Tonights results are:

Amm : 0

Nitrate : 110 (same as yesterday)

Nitrite 3.3 (same as yesterday)

PH : 8.0 (same as yesterday)

I have updated the result table in post.

Thanks

Danny

hit day 14 and all results were same as yesterday, i hate the smell of ammonia, i swear the smell gets worse each time i open the bottle.

updated table on first post of this thread.

Looks like your parameters (like pH, temp etc.) are staying nice and stable as you proceed through the nitrite spike phase of your fishless cycle. Keep up the good work of collecting and displaying all the data for us, that's an important part of us being able to help you with your fishless cycle. WD

i am going to be ordering another test kit over the weekend, just ready for when this one runs out. should i order the same nutrafin one or swop over to the api kit. most people seem to use the api kit and was wondering if i jumped over to an api kit once this ones finished would it confuse the table i been updating for everyone?
