i put them in a bowl of water and put in the microwave for awhile and it'll sink

i use the base of a plastic plant with a tierap on, cut the tie into a point and long enoughto loop through the veg , then just push into you gravel/sand

I bought a few marbles from my lfs yesterday, they were 5p each and im hoping they have just enough weight to hold the cucumber down.

Your LFS sells marble-type weights for just this purpose. PetsMart has the egg-like weights, too.

we use a little clip that has a suction thingy on it (from lfs), stick the suction to the tank wall & wedge the cucumber/zucchini/lettuce to that .............works pretty well
