Cucumber For Apples

Just got 2 apple snails for my main tank and just thought I would try them on some cucumber, that I had in my fridge But can you just slice and clip it down? or do you need to cook it a little? Hope I have posted this in the right place

Cucumber doesn't need softening; but then it has almost no nutrtion in it either!

You'd be better off giving them apple, tomato, melon, lettuce (needs 'blanching' by having boiling water poured over it and leaving for a few minutes), broccoli stalk or courgette.

You can rubber band them to a rock or stab a (stainless steel) teaspoon or fork through the veg to hold it down. Or you can splash out on a 'Screwcumber' from Ebay, but a teaspoon does the job just as well.

Thank you Just put the cucumber in as I just had some in fridge, but will buy a few things you have just mentioned do you need to blanch the broccoli stalk and courgette first or just the lettuce? also I have a pleco so will he eat the same as the snails

I don't blanch the courgette or broccoli but you could if you think they're findig it too hard; I do split the stalk though. The plecs will be very happy to try some too

I used to do the same with thicker chunks of lettuce or any leafy green and zuchinni. I would take a shell that was long and narrow and screw it into the veggies and that would make it sink.

Courgette is a firm favourite with my Plecs and Snails. Use a fork to weigh it down and sit back and watch them find it!

i save the bits of lead the plants come bunched together in and use them to hold the veg down
