Hi all,

has anyone had much success keeping corydoras and barbs together in large numbers?

What species of barb are we talking about? They vary greatly in temperament.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Tha barbs are a mature school of 10 tigers.

The corys i would like would be sterbai's x16-20

I would say no. I tried cories with my tigers, and the cories became very shy and would only come out to eat, and some showed signs of having nipped dorsal fins; I separated them again after about a week, as I could tell the cories weren't happy.

I'd agree with fluttermoth.

I never tried it personally, but another member did a few years ago, Tizer, and had poor results.  Similar to flutter's experience.

Tigers can be far too aggressive for such a peaceful fish as corydoras.

Thanks for the info,

Yep that sounds quite likely, corys are often shy at the best of times and the tigers are so cheeky and inquisitive :(

I would really like to setup a new tank with a big school of sterbai dominating the bottom,
any cool ideas for a fish to occupy the upper areas of the tank?

Oh,

P.S.
what are easiest corys to breed?

Any tetra :)

But be aware that sterbai like soft water and sand would also be great!

I have 8, Tiger Barbs, 4, Cherry Barbs, 5, White Widow Tetra and 6, Corydoras Agassizii and some Neons in my 200 litre (and most of them have lived together in my 125 Litre previously to that), No aggression between species but the White Widow do have a little chase amongst themselves but they suffer no injuries or have any signs of fin damage.

Yup... although I wouldn't say 'any' tetra - piranha, silver dollars and red belly pacu are all 'tetra'.   Serpae can be as nippy as the tigers, as well as skirts.

There are literally tons of options though:

neon
black neon
green neon
cardinal
emperor
ember
flame
rosy
bloodfin
rummynose
false rummynose
phantom
red eye
head and tail light
bleeding heart (if you wanted to go for the slightly larger variety)
penguin

I have albino cores with cherry barbs and harlequin rasbora.  Everyone seems to do there own thing and no aggression.

Those are all docile fish...

I forgot:

lemon
glowlight
...

lol, I would never have thought pacu were in the tetra family!

My friend has four the size of dinner plates, they eat almost anything:)

Thanks for the feedback, but i'm sorry to say i'm a bit anti tetra. (well small community ones)
I guess they could be pretty cool in a massive school.
I'm looking for something a bit quirkier and strange or 1-2 larger feature fish.

I would love to have a load of male betta..........But i think that may get messy:(

Depending on the size of your tank, there are still plenty of options...

If you want 'large' docile fish - a keyhole cichlid, or even a pair would work with corydoras.

A nice shoal of cardinals would add some size and a lot of color to the tank.  With keyhole cichlid, rams or even a pearl gourami, it could be a striking display.
