Hi guys,

I currently have a 20 gallon tank filled with tropical fish. I am considering switching to making it into a convict cichlid tank (without my current tropical fish of course). I have two kribensis at the moment but generally I have never kept cichlids. Would I be able to keep Convicts in a 20 gallon, if so, how many? Also I have a red-tailed black shark which looks truly stunning and would like him to stay.

Thanks.

Not really big enough for concivts as they are pretty boisterous fish, you also need a bigger tank for your shark too, these get around 6" but do make excellent tankmates for larger cichlids. If you want to go cichlids with that size tank you would be better off looking at the dwarf species, curviceps, red breasted acara and apisto's. Hope this helps :)

If you want convicts in a small tank I would only have a pair and no other fish, they are very territorial especially when breeding and would only get aggressive with the other fish if in the same tank hope this helps
