Is CO2 neccessary for plants in aquariums or is it just optional?? Do plants need it or is just extra??

im not an expert but i dont think CO2 is necessary if you have the appropiate lighting, the fish you have in your tank will create CO2 when they breath, it will help out a whole bunch but if you have the proper lighting and use a fertilizer of some sort you should get good growth

dont forget CO2 is a limiting factor in plant growth i.e no matter how much light you have if CO2 is lacking they wont grow

Plants will live fine without CO2 injection in your aquarium. Before you start thinking of adding CO2, tell us what you have for lighting and what size tank you have. Adding CO2 doesn't really start to benefit plants until you reach around 2 watts of light per gallon. I grew plants with no problems at all without CO2. I use it now, but I also have 6WPG.
