I have read many articles about the adult size of clown knifefish and I have gotten many different answers. I would really appreciate a definate answer. Also, what is the minimum tank size for clow knifes?

they will grow to be roughly 40"
ultimately you will want a tank that provides 36" of turning space

I recall asking the same question about 12 months ago and I;m sure I got responses saying in aqauria it was liely they would remain under the maximm 40 inch size and that around 24 inch was more likely.... don;t flame me if wrong lol

My own Clown knife isnow about 13 inches and after growing initially very quickly hes now slowed down a great deal.... I supose time will tell

All CL will potentially grow to 40", and should be accommodated accordingly. at 13", your CL is FAR from full grown. it will continue to grow, however slowly. my largest is 18" and growing strong.

I understand he ain;t anywhere near fully grown but my point was it was unlikely it would grow to 40 inch in a domestic aquarium. Some fella called Bitteraspects gave me that advice on my old post lol
"anytime you read a writeup on just about any fish, they put down the "max size" as the biggest captured in the wild. however, as mentioned above, that is not even close to realistic in an aquarium "

sounds like a clearly educated and experienced fish keeper.
however, the question in this thread, unlike yours, did not state "captive" size, but rather max adult size, which is regularly recorded in the ballpark of 40". also, given a true monster tank or pond, they will potentially grow close to that size. but unless you are actually providing thousands of gallons, i woulnt put your money on having a 40" CL to brag about. not to mention, most people dont keep them long enough to see their full size.
