I have this filter (well bought it today) and the manuals pretty slim on info to say the least so im just wondering what the tube does?

Its has a small cap on the end that if you turn it reveals a tiny hole that seems to create alot more bubbles but its quite noisy compared to leaving it shut
but ive noticed there's a small amount of water in the tube and im just worried it might build up over night and ill wake up to find my PC/TV/Surround sound stuff soaked

Im just a newbie myself, but I am pretty sure that is the tube for a venturi effect. Youre right it does create a lot of bubbles. It is to help aerate the water. More aeration, the more gaseous exchange occurs. But you dont have to use it. It is an extra.

This tube as you have found out produces bubbles using the venturie system. It is purely to produce bubbles which cause disruption at the water surface which increases surface area and friction. All this is good for oxygen transference from the air into the water. It is your choice whether or not to use it. Personally I have never like this sort of thing as it is noisy, the smaller bubbles swirl around giving the tank a cloudy appearence and the fish constantly think the bubbles at the surface are food so they chase around the surface. Just keep the tube within the tank area if you are concerned about back-syphoning.

Hope this helps :good:

Awesome thanks to both of ya :D
Ill probably just twist it while im out as im amazed at how quite the filter is whithought it , literally silent :D

Might aswell keep this Q in here but Why on earth are my fish so interested in the bottom of the filter?

They head over to the intake and poke around the bottom and I could have sworn one got sucked in and had to flail to get out of the suction!
I think the main draw is food bits get pulled to the intake but not in so there scavenging food

Cant exactly block it off so im not sure if its a problem or not... then again could be normal fishy behaviour

if you would like the bubbles but without the 'gurgling' noise, shove a bit of cotton wool in the tube worked for me, no noise and nice bubbles for the fish!
