Chinese Hillstream Loach

Hi all,

Two weeks ago I bought two tank "cleaners" which I believe to be Chinese Hillstream Loach's. I have a cold water tank and the other fish in the tank are goldfish, shbumpkins etc. Tonight I came home and one of my red caps had died and I was checking the other fish to see if they were OK. I noticed that they had some "sores" on them a little like fungus or fin rot but different. I then noticed a small, almost microscopic thing swimming about, it seems that the Chinese Hillstream Loach's have bread/given birth and the young have attached to the other fish. From what I have read about these fish they are not agressive and don't eat other fish. I just wondered if anyone knows if the young will kill all my other fish? If the answer is yes, do you have any ideas how I could get rid of them?

Chances are, its probably Argulus (Fish louse)

The fish louse is a flattened mite-like crustacean about 5 mm long that attaches itself to the body of fish. They irritate the host fish which may have clamped fins, become restless, and may show inflamed areas where the lice have been.
With larger fish and light infestations, the lice can be picked off with a pair of forceps. Other cases can best be done with a 10 to 30 minute bath in 10 mg per liter of potassium permanganate. Or treat the whole tank with 2 mg per liter, but this method is messy and dyes the water.

i would see if you could find a treatment
to do the work for you i think interpet

I have looked at the site, the thing is I live in Spain. Do you happen to know if they ship here or how long it could take?

I am gutted, there I was thinking last night that I had baby fish and thinking how sweet that was, and then reading up on how hard it is to breed the hillstream loach (that is what the little things look like a bit) I got more exited and now I am gutted....I will never get fish from that pet shop again I tell you.

i was just wondering if the pet shop
you use stocks interpet or waterlife
products if it does there should be somthing
in those lines of treatments to deal with

Thank you all for your advice.

I found some anti crustasion treatment in a pet shop in Gibraltar and treated the fish last night, the ticks seem to have gone of the fishes bodies, they just have to heal the holes left now. They are still swimming and eating so all good so far....

I am so used to keeping tropical fish and have just moved to cold water fish as my son won two goldfish on the local fair (and they are still going strong 3 months on!!!)
