Chilids For Comunity Tank

Blue acara are gorgous, good choice, there is a chap in tipton advertising on the AC site some blue acara at £2 each.
wow cheap as chips! mgt look nto that, however im not a fan of posting fish or having fish posted to me  i know thats how the lfs gets them but still.lol

Ellioti's max out at 5", quite a bit smaller than Firemouths.
your right.lol i read an article wrong on a web site, 15cm :good:

ok so now im confuddled about what to get  i definatly want some blue acuras, will ellioti be ok with blue acuras? f so i may get 4-6 ellioti's and 2 blue acuras :good:

I just saw you were in the midlands lol, tis a big place.

Blue Acara and Ellioti would be fine together, they definately dont grow to 12" my male (who was massive) was 6" including fins.

Yeah just a bit of a jaunt to tipton then lol. Just a word of advice with the Ellioti, look at their spines especially towards the tail, make sure the tails are not sticking up, lots of people who have bought mine have commented that the ones they have seen lately (well over the last couple months) all seem to have this curved up tail. It might just be a bad batch locally to me (Solihull).

so i may get 4-6 ellioti's and 2 blue acuras :good:

thats a few too many IMO I would stick with 1 of each or 2 acaras and 1 ellioti

Like Willis said if you like tanks with drama get a paire. I had a breeding paire of blue acaras and it was nothing but problems. I know I'm not the only one that has had problems with keeping paires.

They already gave you great advice. IMO I would just get 1 blue acara and maybe one firemouth no paires.

Agree with the advice to only get singletons of each cichlid species. Breeding pairs of cichlids in a community tank can be a complete PITA.
If getting singletons, look at Acarichthys heckelii. These are my favourite cichlids after severums. Very, very attractive, and full of character, always active. Also sturdy, but relatively peaceful with other fish of different species. Even though they swim at all levels they are real substrate sifters though, so be prepared with a relatively fine substrate and no plants which you don't mind being dug up a bit.
To my mind, way more interesting than blue acara.
