Catching Kuhlis!

Heyy random question!

What is the best way to catch a kuhli Loach?

I have 8 and have spent pretty much the last 2 hours trying to catch them.
So far I have only caught . . . . . 1 .......

PATHETIC I KNOW! But i am losing the will to live. And I am pretty sure it will take me approximatly 11 days to catch them if I keep going the way I am. Understandably by then I will be asleep crying in a pool of my own tears.

P.s. I have taken all decor and equiptment out already and its only a 20 gallon tank !

Try two nets - - herd them with one and have the second one waiting to scoop them up.

You can also try a net and a cup (such as a clear glass) - - herd them with the net into the cup and then pull the cup out of the tank.

LOL! I agree with lilirish. Two nets. Smaller net for the chasing, large net for the catching. Good luck! Of course, placement of the bigger net should be along the bottom against the side of the tank.

Since the fast little tackers like hugging the edge of the glass try putting some pvc pipe on its side laying along the glass with one end closed off by either a net or the glass and then herd the Khuli's into the pipe. If all their other cover is gone they should rocket into the pipe. Then all you need to do is net the open end and slide the pipe out.

I had the same issue trying to catch danios! I wanted to curl into a ball and cry, and I was doing THEM favor moving them to a bigger tank the little snots!

I had to drain all but a few inches of water out and use something to divide the tank and heard them to a small area to net. I was ready to scream by the time I got them all. I was stressed and I swear they were laughing at me!

+1 that was me on Tuesday night, 10 danios in a 4ft planted = hell. What worked for me was putting some pint glasses in there and herding them towards it and putting my hand over the end once one had swum in. It took ages but it worked, might work for the khulis too if you can stop them going up the side. But the suggestion of using some piping is just as good especially if it's dark as they'll go in there for cover and you can just lift the pipe out when covering the ends.
