Carbon In Filter ?

hi all

i have just brought a small all pond solutions external filter to use on a small 30 lt tank in my kitchen.inside the filter it has a sponge,bag of ceramic tubes and a bag of activated carbon.

am i right in thinking that carbon used only be used part time /removing medicians and not used full time? my thinking is possibly not to use the carbon and possibly replace with say some bioballs as i have in a tetratec or like the small balls as in eheim external?

I think you would be fine doing what you suggest.

You don't need carbon in your filter all the time, I did the exact as you're thinking with my aps filter

thanks for that,also what order would you put 3 filter stages in as if you do as it shows in pictures it seams wrong.

filter shows in through sponge through ceramic tubes then through carbon and out!

i would say in through ceramic tubes through now eheim balls and then through sponge out possibly?

the ceramic and bio balls do esentially the same thing.

the way i set mine up was sponges at the bottom, then a mixture of ceramic and balls in the middle and top and finally some filter wool to trap the tiny partiles
