I currently have a rekord 60 in the living room, my mother thinks its MASSIVE, where as you can obviously guess i dont. ITS TINY!!!

so i saw an offer in the LFS where it says they can sell juwel tanks with a 20% discount. so ive been asking her for months
"can i have a bigger tank please?, i will never ask for anything again". the general stuff.

so she agreed on me buying a rio 125 for £200, but you know how it is you allways want the next one up.

so anyone that has owned both a rio 125 or a rio 180 could you tell me how noticable the differnece in size is from a "mothers opinion" ive seen them in the shop side by side, the 180 is roughly 20 cm longer and 5 cm wider, do you think she would notice? if i ordered a 180?.

or could you just tell me in your opinion the size difference, its not to noticable is it?

Won't she notice the price difference? If there's not much difference in price, present the merits of having a bigger tank...Mother's don't like to be "tricked"....

From a mother's point of view (or a parent's) you do not mentione the difference in price.... Maybe that is the concern??

price doesnt matter ill be paying for it...

no she doesnt want her house turned into an aquarium  and i said i will get rid of the rekord to make way for the 125 or 180(if im lucky)

is there much difference in size? is it a MASSIVE difference or hardly noticable

Imagine the 125 with your 60 added on to one end. The capacity of the 125 + the 60 (54 litres) equals about the same capacity of the 180, but won't not be the same dimensions. Might give you a rough idea.

The 125 is 81 x 36 cm (L x W), the 180 is 101 x 41 (L x W), so if she can measure, she will know the difference.

However, explain the size difference to her and the negligable price difference and that you wont ask for another tank again as the 180 is more than enough, whereas the 125 wont be big enough for long.

i can get the 125 with a cabinet in any colour for £200 :D

or the 180 with a cabinet for £260

and i think they are very competitive prices.

the think is she is like anthea turner (likes the house imaculate and nothing out of place, ive told her how beautiful a amazonian biotope would look etc but she says she doesnt want her house looking like an aquarium, but i said to her you choose the colour.

You better negotiate the bigger one, else you'll never be satisfied..... pull all tricks & show her a couple of the replies.....

why not go second nd, i picked up and rio 240 for £90 inc 2 fluval 4+ filters. instread of a rio 125, why not try a rekord 120?

ok will do, ive told her it wont look much bigger than the 125 and ive cut out a peice fo paper represnting the base front and side of the tank and shes looking convinced :fun: however i have another problem, i want to transfer the current ocupents from my rekord 60 to the 125 or hopefully 180.

i have 2 butterfly rams and 13 neons tetras (i was meant to get 12 but got 1 free :D )

and ive heard they both dont like new tanks so my plan was fill up the tank, take the media from the rekord 60 and replace some of the new pads with the existing ones, to clone the tank and to seed exsisting pads. and then add the fish as the appropriate bacteria are all ready there. anything wrong with this?

but neons like a mature tank and rams like tanks with low nitrates. so what do i do?

my mother doesnt want her living room like an aquarium and i dont want a rekord the lighting is...well i can say that ill get blocked. and i can afford new. but 180 is MAX

i picked up a rio125 for 40 quid with all the trimmings......going second hand could save u a packet!! perhaps try reasoning with her, being truthfull from the start is always the best!.......explain that you will be wanting to upgrade in the future anyway, and by going bigger now it may slow this process down hahahaha :good:

worked for me

do what i did on the rekord and install and extra 30w bulb so you have plenty of lighting. it was soo easy and soo cheap. well saying that im selling mine in the next couple of months becuase i need to make room for the 240. :shifty:

Only thing wrong with rekord tanks is the lighting. I have a 96 and the lighting is 0.8 wpg with one t8. Thats the advantage of a rio it has 2 t5s.
