Can You Really Tell The Difference? Calling All Rio Owners!

If it's a question of design, have you shown your Mum the Juwel Trigon 190, it's one of their corner tanks (course depends if there is an available corner in the house)

Another thought on perception of tank sizes, to me they always seem bigger when your looking at an empty tank, get them aquascaped and the water in and they seem to shrink a bit. Something else you could do, though this is going the honesty route (always the best in the end) is to ask your Mum to come with you to the fish shop and show her the tanks that are there. Involve her in the decision, ask her opinion and as a potential added bonus she will also see the big tanks like the Rio 400 and equivalents, comepared to them the size of tank you are talking about will look small.

All the best,

Triskele.

thanks for the reply, a good reply.

i will ask her if she'll take me to the LFS on sunday and well have a proper look, ive said to her its the biggest tank i will need and i wont be needing a bigger one until i leave home, but she said if you go to sixth form then ill let you as i want you to go. which is good as i was planning on going anyway.

its not size now, its the cabinet, she doesnt want an eyesaw in her living room, which i can understand, i think the cabinet looks nice, but she think differently.

i said to her pictures dont do the tank justice so when we go to the LFS i shall show her the stand.

unless your mum is able to find a stand that looks nice and can hol 180 litres of water on top of it with no problems, then go for it. but i see that not being very possible, unless you make one yourself.
I had my Rio125 in my bedroom, extension over garage, and the floorboards in here are alot less weaker then the ones in the original bedrooms in the house. I had no problems.
Aslong as you put the weight over the joists, you should be fine.
But yeah look at the Trigon, and what about Clear-Seal tanks, they make some nice interesting ones. Just not sure of where to buy them from.

Lift the carpet up in the room, whichever way the floorboards run the joists go the opposite way, ie: If the floorboards runs front to back of the house, then the joists run from side to side.

lol this thread made me laugh.. as a mum i appreciate my kids trying to "get one over on me".. of course thay are always sussed but i do "give" sometimes

let her have a plant pot or lamp and a few trinket boxes on the shelves and bobs your preverbial uncle

Truckasauras...Let your Mom read this...
I'm a retired teacher and have seen many cases when young people are interested in nothing, except making trouble. She's obviously done something right, as you seem to be a mature responsible young person with a good hobby. The cabinet, which I rather like, is not that important. The fact that you have found something that really interests you is. It will be an opportunity for you to continue having good healthy fun and learning at the same time. Maybe, if it's really important, you could find a stand together that is acceptable...it's just a piece of furniture. It can become a great learning experience for you....
